‘Shine Like Stars’

Deepening the curriculum.

We love to give all the children here at Lowdham multiple opportunities to thrive in different areas; to see that learning can occur everywhere and in different ways.

Take a look at some of the ways we embed learning throughout the school - not just in the classroom.

Science - pollination in our forest school.

Geography - fieldwork

Extended learning - using Digimaps.

Curriculum Overview

Here we outline the learning that takes place each term in our school.

We’ll add here materials that will help you support your child’s learning at home.

We also provide documentation to explain how we teach the curriculum and overviews are available on request as a digital or paper copy.

Take a look at our PE Long Term Plan and the sporting achievements we have had recently.

We also have photos in our gallery.

Phonics and early reading

Mastering reading at an early age is absolutely paramount to lifelong learning.

Here at Lowdham, we ensure that children have a sound grasp of phonics so they can decode words and then use specific skills so they can retrieve, infer, predict and comprehend a range of texts.

For the teaching of phonics, we use Bug Club - this is our main scheme and drives the sequence of learning.

We use books that match the phonics level for each child as well as a colour-banded book appropriate for their age and stage. These are mostly made up from the following publishers: Big Cat Phonics, Bug Club and Oxford Reading Tree. The children also take home a 'borrow' book - this is to be looked at with a grown up to inspire a love of stories and to help support conversations about reading.
